Trump Tower Engagement Session by Bart Galbas

Engagement portrait by Bart Galbas

Photographed by the columns of the Trump Tower in downtown Chicago on North Wabash Avenue and Chicago River. The Trump International Hotel and Tower was designed by architect Adrian Smith of Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, and is standing at 1,388 feet tall. It's modern architecture serves as one of Bart's favorite spots to take his couples for engagement and wedding portraits. It's columns and glass curtain wall serve as a great background rich with design and patterns. The overhead construction blocks direct sunlight for big part of the day allowing for a great flattering, diffused light to come in on an angle. What makes this spot even more attractive is its close proximity to Bart's other favorite spots, like the La Salle Street Bridge, Chicago River Walk, Wrigley Building and Michigan Avenue.

Engagement session is a big part of the wedding photography coverage. It creates memorable and beautiful images of the couple that can be used, among other things, for the save the date cards and display prints at the wedding. It also serves as a great way of getting to know the photographer who on the other hand will learn about couple's personalities, likes and dislikes. After all, just like the bridal party, the photographer will be with the couple for the majority of their wedding day.

This engagement image was taken with my favorite, newest edition, Nikon 70-200mm 2.8E FL ED VR lens on a D4 body. No flash added, the overhead structure of the Trump Tower blocked the light from the top allowing the bounced light from the Equitable Building to come in from the left side and illuminate the couple. This is the appealing part of this location. It allows for a controlled, side light throughout big part of the day.
